Adding colors to the mundane life of ours, the much-loved Indian actress, Kajal Aggarwal, happily announced on Instagram the news of her wedding with long term friend cum bespoke interior design firm businessman, Gautam Kitchlu. The couple’s seven years of friendship gradually blossomed into a fairytale love story of three years and they finally tied knot on 30 October at Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai amidst the presence of forty special guests. “This pandemic has certainly shed a sobering light on our joy, but we are thrilled to start our lives together and know that all of you will be cheering us in spirit,” Kajal posted on her Instagram account.
The story of their love was like no other, and the social distancing norm only brought them close. The circumstances triggered Gautam Kitchlu to propose to his ladylove. Kitchlu proposed Kajal, as Kajal described, in a non- filmy way yet in the most emotional and heartfelt manner, that she was excited to saying ‘yes’ to living together for the rest of her life with this man, who was so committed and genuine about his feelings for her. She reveals that when it comes to romance, Gautam is understated and she's rather thankful for it, having seen enough in the movies! She even calls her love story clichéd being best friends with her better half for over a decade.
Kajal, a Punjabi and Gautam, a half-Punjabi, half- Kashmiri; were keen on clubbing both their cultures in the wedding. The couple got engaged in June 2020 and the elegant sunshine hued sari worn by Kajal was designed by Manish Malhotra, whom she credits as the first designer to relentlessly have the craftsmen work for the designer sari regardless of the lockdown circumstances. Though the pandemic did give an edge to the dream destination wedding with hundreds of dear ones by her side and parties all night, Kajal’s wedding was not any less. They celebrated every step from the slumber bachelorette party, Radha Krishna Satsang, Mehndi celebration to a fun after-party that went on till the wee hours. The beautiful Kajal outshined herself in all designer ensembles for each occasion that now has got the internet community drooling!
The exciting wedding plans went on through virtual video calls and texts. Kajal says how helpful and well-coordinated her girl gang was in getting things done in the best possible way. Concerned with the safety of all her guests, the couple enlisted a Chennai based event production company to run along with the safety and sanitization guidelines. Her mother curated cute wedding invitations packed with delicacies for the 40 invites. Her sister, Nisha Aggarwal, threw an at-home soiree where Kajal and her friends were seen wearing custom pyjama sets by Dandelion.
Kajal wore an elegant red and ivory Varun Bahl creation for the auspicious Radha Krishna Satsang and a lime green lehenga by Anita Dongre for Chunni celebration, a Punjabi tradition. On the day of marriage, Kajal looked drop-dead gorgeous in red, custom-made Anamika Khanna lehenga, with intricated kashmiri resham work all over. She paired up the look with uncut diamond jewellery by Sunita Shekhawat and some heirloom pieces (matha patti and nath) that belonged to her mother and nani. The whole look was styled by celebrity stylist, Amy Patel and, need not mention, she nailed it!
As the couple have a strong connection with South- India owing to the fame she has garnered, the marriage also had the Telugu ritual - Jeelakarra Bellam, which Kajal mentioned as an act of paying tribute to their relationship with South India by adopting this beautiful ritual. Hundreds of guests marked their attendance in the ceremony via Zoom and Kajal has promised to throw a party next year for those who missed, especially her friends from the film industry. The Celebrations ended with an eventful after-party where Kajal was given a glamorous look, wearing Falguni-Shane Peacock couture. It was a happy ending and a happier beginning to a new phase of life. With Kajal’s parting words that “the whole idea of waking up next to someone you love is what all that matters”, Team She wishes this adorable bride a happy married life for her heart has found its right match here in her blessed wedding story.
Love, Team She
